They only talk about her Asian-influenced dress. Boring. At least the sex article was interesting.
In better news, for their HBCU college issue, they had Jada Pinkett Smith on their cover.

I found this site while looking for more Cree Summer stuff: http://rainyblackcrow.tripod.com/index.html
Check it out!
Freddie mentions that in “In the Eye of the Storm” that her parents thought that fairy tales were sexist and dogmatic, so (apparently) her parents read Chaucer to her. Then she recites the beginning of the Canterbury Tales (from the General Prologue, in Modern English):
When that April with his showers soothe
The drought of March hath pierced to the root…
Makes sense to me, since (apparently) Chaucer was making fun of all the conventions during the period in which he lived (at least for the Tales). Problem is, Chaucer used elements found in fairy tales, such as King Arthur and fairies and such–Freddie’s parents may have thought twice before telling her Chaucer.
Today I have decided not to go to my Survival Swimming class.
Survival Swimming is a course at UNC that is supposed to get a person aquainted with the water and feel comfortable in it, but every time I’ve stepped into that pool, I’ve felt miserable–the only thing I’m comfortable with is the back float, and that’s because my face is not submerged in the water. I feel like I won’t be able to breathe–I don’t breathe well anyway, and that’s because (at least) one of my nostrils is always clogged up. Besides, every time I’ve been in the pool, I have these uncontrolable spasms–like I’m always cold. I don’t know whether I’m nervous or cold in the pool.
I am seeking out help to control my body and also attempting to get a swim waver. I don’t think I will be able to feel comfortable in the pool right now, especially at the rate this Survival Swimming class is. (It’s been three weeks, methinks, and we’re attempting the front crawl. This is just too much for me.) My dream is to one day be able to at least do a dead man’s float in the water; I feel that I need either slower or individualized help with swimming, not some class dictated by the Physical Education department and Counseling and Psychological Service (CAPS) at UNC.
I guess I feel like Jaleesa right now, unable to make a speech (or in my case, swim). For me to be comfortable, I need to take baby steps in my thinking and physical attributes, that’s all.
(NOTE: This personal antedote is not a subsitute and/or explaination for many of the opinions of this blog posted earlier. I’ll never back down, ya hear me?)

Let’s see…two things about ADW. Here’s the first:
Cree Summer’s voice will be heard in two cartoons in the future. She’ll provide several voices for a cartoon called Camp Lazlo, created by Joe Murray, the guy who created Rocko’s Modern Life. If the project is greenlighted, it’ll be seen in summer ‘05 on Cartoon Network.
Comedy Central is set to premiere an adult cartoon next month called Drawn Together, a parody of any “reality” show ever made (and also a way for Comedy Central to ride the coattails of the popular Cartoon Network block Adult Swim), except the reality participants are cartoons. Cree’ll provide the voice of “Foxxy Love.” (After this post: A picture of Foxxy and her castmates.)
Jasmine Guy reflects on diverse career
Wandering around the net again, and I found this…I’ll keep you updated when the site makes it on the net. (BTW, for some absurd reason jasmineguy.com is taken by a porn site.)
I had a brilliant post earlier about my main grievances on ADW, but sadly as I was editing another post on the blog, it disappeared. Let me sum it up briefly:
–Lisa Bonet being fired from ADW because she was pregnant, but then an episode about having children in college aired (“Delusions of Daddyhood”).
–The use of black and white stock characters on a show which was supposed to be representative of the total HBCU experience.
–Although Dwayne is athletic and (later) socially inept (unlike me), he’s about as stereotypical as Raj on What’s Happening, Urkel on Family Matters and Franklin in My Wife and Kids: they all are (for the most part) skinny, smart, yet very awkward in their social settings as well as in sports. One character who is unlike these characters in the fact that he’s street smart (even moreso than Dwayne) and book smart is Michael in Good Times.
Less bitching tomorrow.
Nothing amazing here…
but wondering why Whitley wore a cut-off sweater in “I’ve Got the Muse in Me” but doesn’t bother to cover her nipples elsewhere.
My theory: Shocked at the appearance of her nipples in “A Stepping Stone,” Jasmine asked for something to cover her nips…but that doesn’t explain later episodes where we have but no choice to look at her nips.
Oh, well.
